Thank you, all advice gratefully received.
We are now looking for our next A3, we have a temporary budget of £3k to get us back on the road, preferably a petrol, ideally a 1.8t again.
I'll check the classified section.
thanks again
Our insurance have offered £985 ...but we can't find another 1.8T 5 door in very good conditon to work out if this is reasonable or not.
...insurance company says they can't find another model like ours because it's a rare combination ?
I've searched here and fleabay, autotrader etc...not found...
Thanks all & JohnDuh, it doesn't make much sense just writting good vehicles off, I'm sure this car could be fixed if funds would allow.
I'd much sooner get the insurance to pay a bodyshop money to fix it, keep people in jobs etc etc..
This car is as good if not better than many of our friends...
We are hoping our beloved A3 wont be a write off, anyone have any idea?
...there doesn't seem to be many 5 door 1.8T's of this era in silver and we loved this car.
Sad time, but could of been much worse, our injuries are minor...car spun round 180 after being hit hard
on drivers side... it...
@Tuffty - cheers, I hope on this occasion its probably a false code,
most these codes have happend since car wash a few weeks back...since then the car wont start etc
thanks
Thanks, tried this morning but still no different.
I'm taking the car in to local audi specialist I.C.A in brock nr preston....see what they say
thanks again all
Connected my van direct to car, by-passing the battery - the drain seems to have gone now but car still wont start
No fault codes (other than dv leak) ran great into the car wash - ran home 2mins, parked up - now car is off it's trolley
Starter motor turns very very slowly, two spins perhaps...
Not sure how the pedal's are fixed in the A3 but if it's a pedal box then there may well be a gasket around the perimeter of the box...if so this could perish over time and let water in....
just a thought I'm definately no ex spurt
thanks,
The cars a Zombie...when fresh battery connected most things seem ok, int lights radio heater lights etc...but as soon as I put key into crank - the life just drains out of it....just about one very slow turn of the starter
Just for good measure hooked 2 batteries up for extra cranking...
Thanks,
So that's a negative to positive kinda short....crikey, I left battery connected...so I better disconect it now.
Carpets all dry from the surface....all this rain which has been never ending up here....probably tipped it over the edge..
I'll try and track the short down...maybe...
Suddenly I've got a severe drain on battery, battery drains down in about 10mins - charged up overnight, connected up and tried turning over but virtually zero
Charged battery with a fresh (spare) diesel battery and again couldn't turn the starter over and drained down in minutes
The night...
Got a whirring sort of grumbly noise coming from front end, hit a curb last week - which blew the tyre (newish bridgestone) and this noise is probably due to that....i sort of hope its just the wheel bearing on its way out.
Thought I'd have a quick look to see if its anything obvious like a...
Had loads of work done at a local garage in January...had to take the car back 2 month later as VCDS picked up cam belt wrongly fitted, which they would'nt believe readily (thank goodness for VCDS)
When we got the car back, pedals seemed to feel a bit loose over bumps etc. Although its been a...
Well, I did what I could, basically a visual check to see if anything looks loose or unbolted...it makes sense that the engine might not be in the same position...just wish I knew how to test it/check it...dont have much equipment...i read that there needs to be a 13mm gap when re setting...the...
Just had cambelt re fitted as the garage got it a tooth out...anyway on return...noticed some vibration which can be heard, down in the pedal area at certain revs??? Also, im sure something is a drift as there seems to be a lite thud/click/snap which can be felt through the pedals...what is...
