so since selling the A3 in March 14 I have been driving around in a Saab 9-3 1.9tid (the 150bhp beast il have you know) .
Can't knock it as it has done exactly what I wanted it to do over the last 18months but alas the dry bumming I have exposed it to over the last 40k miles is now taking its...
Best thing to do is plug in VCDS as that will give you the actual temp. Even when the needle is on 90 the temp can be anywhere up to 120deg within tolerance.
Yeah it's a killer. Just another receipt in the pile.
I'm selling the car and it's become very apparent I'm about to lose a lot of money.

A blocked pick up pipe would cause the mayo though would it?
I think you should pressure test your engine, you can buy a gauge for around 15 squid.
Then if all ok, take your oil cooler off and pressure test that by submerging in a bucket of water, block one of the pipes and force air into the...
It may be worth 'demanding' that they pay for a full RAC type inspection once they have completed the work for your piece of mind. If its a dog or they try cutting corners on the repair then they wont want to do this and may just give you your money back.
Also if they are swapping the engine...
