Got mine in this week and they smoke tested it found that there was a slight leak coming from the PCV, it's now been replaced (not expensive to do) and I've driven about 200 miles in various temps from 15c to 28c and no sign of the revving.... here is hoping that it's fixed.
You are correct i'm sure, sorry was just trying to help anyone with an older 1st or 2nd gen who came across this thread and wanted to have something similar to the newer 3rd gen models. I know that the older gen bluetooth did not support music over A2DP and just supported calls.
Note: If...
Great! good to kn0w, what year and model of MMI do you have? others might have older models and different versions which don't support this out of the box.
Sorry to drag up an old thread but I found this which might solve the Spotify via MMI problem and nope I don't work for them.

Since changing the broken dipstick and traveling about 400 miles I've seen an improvement but not resolved, so I started logging temp verses revving and my logs have shown that if the outside temp is lower than 19c it happens more frequently sometimes revving about 5-20 times and if it's above...
Just to provide and update, replaced dipstick on May 15, since then one instance of repeating hunting, then it would seem once a day it hunts just once, but you only notice it on short trips when you stop at lights, regardless of weather, once it's hunted once it does not occur again that day...
Yesterday started hunting again 10 times :( then stopped and could not reproduce. Strange as it was only about 10 mins into the 8 mile run. Outside temp was 15c just in case there is a pattern.
Ok so here is the update, replaced the Orange DipStick with Yellow one and it's made a significant difference, now after 5 days of testing regardless of the weather the rev counter hunts up to 1800 RPM and then settles back down to 800 RPM just once during each trip, be it 10 miles, 20 miles or...
Replacement dipstick arrived and installed, cleaned the old orange one and it totally disintegrated in my hand, not impressed with Audi, clearly this alone should be a recall item. But will wait and see what happens next.
Thanks @R222cet for the update, look forward to finding out the results.
I looked at my dipstick and it's broken:
Bit worried where the plastic bits have gone.. will replace just in case.
Same issue here,
its intermittent and some tines only happens once other times happens like the video several times.
I will check the dip stick tomorrow so far it sounds like there are a vast number of possible causes:
1) Dip Stick
2) PCV Valve
3) MAF Sensor
4) Vacuum Leak
5) Injectors
6)...
akis, nothing from Audi, I have no other issues with mine, just living with it... however I might be a Volvo next time my wife's C30 T5 (same age) is faultless I have to say.
Thanks to everyone for the input, much appreciated, decided to take another look at the broken unit and discovered the problem.
After much testing and trying, it appears that the RNS-E does not cope well with more than 200 address book entries to sync between the phone and unit, having more...
Thanks! that Alpine looks great, did not think that would fit, the last two cars I had, I replaced the OEM with Alpine units myself and the sound quality was so much better.
Is it possible to buy the adapters and face place to swap out the units, I'm assuming that the iPod and Bluetooth...
Thanks Pablo, I already have the RNS-E + AMI so I would be converting from it. I might be tempted with the MK2 if that was a plug and play swap, no drilling or extra wires.
I believe the 2009 came with a MK1 as the 2x SDcards in mine can only cope with 2GB at a time max.
