I recently discovered the same code on my car ( 5 door) but I'm a bit confused.
Is this sensor for the hatch window or for one of the rear passenger doors?
I would like to do the same thing as I've got a new light switch with CH/LH button but I can't find the wiring diagram. The link doesn't work anymore.

Unfortunately my wiring loom is not labeled. Do you happen to know the pin-out for the interior mirror connector and sensor connector?
I know it's an old thread but can you help me out with the DRL switch wiring? You mentioned an extra wire, can you tell me to which pin# will have to be connected for both ends?

I've installed a dimming interior mirror, just like the OP, on my A3, ran the short wire of the loom to Pin1 of the dome lights connector but my mirror still dims when the interior lights are ON or when in reverse.
