Ah nice one... thanks, I found that mistake in my VAG hunting (snigger)... it looks like 4b0498201 is also the one? Been trying to get some info from local Audi garage but they seem to be rather busy! Either way it looks like I'd be better off with full driveshaft anyway...

I wonder how accurate the autopartoo site is... it shows 3B0498201 as being right inner joint for most Avant models incl. 1.9TDi (115bhp) as well as the larger 2.8 FWD or 2.5TDI FWD mentioned above - just that it doesn't show AJM next to it in vagcat!
