Sold the A3 today as I just wasn't getting on with it. On the plus side I made £200 profit on what it owed me so it can't be all that bad.

Hot start problem is in most cases caused by a worm starter motor. I had exactly the same issue with a 2005 Golf 2.0 Tdi (BKD) which was resolved by replacing the starter motor using a recon unit from ECP. Replacing the starter motor is a 30 minute job abd can be done on your driveway just...

I don't believe you can replace the micro switch but I stand to be corrected. Personally I would suggest replacing the whole catch mechanism as its a lot easier.

Microswitch needs cleaning. From previous experience the microswitch can be a PITA to properly clean and sometimes the best way of fixing is to replace the bonnet lock mechanism. The lock mechanism can be bought for less than £40 and takes 10-15 minutes to fit

I would either have a look on ebay for 2007+ onwards A3's being split out for parts (Rev C head onwards) or phone a couple of local breakers preferably a VAG specialist.

So i have had the A3 now for just over 4 weeks and painlessly covered 2.5k miles HOWEVER i have noticed a fair amount of turbo whine not Siren just a bit more whistle/whine than the other 5-6 VW's 2.0 TDi i've owned. Appreciated the car has covered nearly 90k miles so there is going to be some...

It is possible but will be stupidly expensive to the point where it might be cheaper to buy a new car.

The gasket failed on my rear wiper motor corroding the boot lock so changed both for just over £100 (new parts) You can get a new wiper motor for about £70 from lincoln audio on ebay and it only takes 10-15 minutes to fit.

Have you recently done any work on the car like removed seats?

So this morning i replaced the boot lock catch mechanism which took a matter of minutes BUT the terminals in the electrical connecter are heavily corroded to point where the middle wire (Lock status) has snapped. The preferred option would be to remove the snapped connector using a repair wire...

Still waiting on the lock mechanism but the wiper came in a sealed VAG branded box and with a two year warranty. Whats not to like :)
