    New brake discs and pads

You make a good point Paddy, as I said, I've no idea if they actually were fake or if Brembo are producing lower quality products these days than their reputation would suggest. I still have the front discs unopened in the loft, will check out these indicators (hologram, QR code, etc) and will...

    New brake discs and pads

Guys, i'd be careful buying 'Brembo's' from EuroCarParts...bought some Brembo discs and pads last year for my Type R - packaging all looked fine, but having fitted them the discs scored up very quickly, am pretty certain they weren't genuine brembo's...or Brembo has cheapened the quality of...

Losing coolant - what to do

I bought an A3 2.0 TDi about 6 weeks ago and had the same problem as you, small amount of coolant going missing and a bit of white smoke from the exhaust, which got worse over time. It was obvious the coolant was getting into the oil somehow. From research I found it could be one of 3...

    Tappet/Injector Cleaning and Glow Plugs

Cheers AY, I've taken your advice and ordered a new set of glowplugs and I also noticed the camshaft bearings were showing a copper/bronze colour in some places, so have ordered a full set of new camshaft bearings...what a can of worms! I gave the ends of the injectors a bit of a clean by hand...

    Tappet/Injector Cleaning and Glow Plugs

Hi guys, I've had to completely dismantle my cylinder head as the old one cracked so I'm swapping to a new AMC one. Just wondering whats the best way to reassemble it...As it's all apart should I clean each part with brake cleaner and lubricate then reassemble or just leave it all oily and...

Is this the dreaded porous Cylinder Head!? Small amount of coolant loss & white smoke

Yep, exactly, certainly not as good as they are cracked up to be (no pun intended initially, but now seems quite apt!). Thanks, i'll need it :)

Is this the dreaded porous Cylinder Head!? Small amount of coolant loss & white smoke

Just a quick update - after removing seemingly endless amounts of nuts, bolts and pipes I finally got the Cylinder Head off. What I found was a crack across both of the holes where the small dowel is, on the two centre cylinders...pics attached. This seems like a very poor design from Audi...

Is this the dreaded porous Cylinder Head!? Small amount of coolant loss & white smoke

Thanks Sooty. Yeah it's a C revision head, but seemingly these do crack also. Will be removing the head this weekend so will update when I have had a look! :/

Central Locking - One Side Not Working

Yeah I have a BKD :( Rev C - but heard of other C's going so pretty sure it must be that.

Central Locking - One Side Not Working

Yeah I'll have a look on eBay for a used one, for the moment it's working with my shoddy fix. Yep, looks like either Head Gasket or Cylinder Head gone... apparently the heads crack between cylinders on the 2.0 TDI engines. So looking for a replacement at the moment. Had the oil cooler and egr...

Is this the dreaded porous Cylinder Head!? Small amount of coolant loss & white smoke

Ok, so got the Oil Cooler and EGR Cooler off and pressure tested both to 70psi...no leaks. So looks like it's almost certainly the head :( darn. Have had a quote from Ivor Searle for a remanufactured head with brand new casting for £620+VAT...sounds ok and have heard great things about them...

Is this the dreaded porous Cylinder Head!? Small amount of coolant loss & white smoke

Hi Guys, Bought a lovely A3 2.0 Tdi (BKD engine) recently and had an issue with the central locking not working on any door other than the drivers door, but discovered it was the wiring loom where the drivers door meets the A-pillar - a couple of wires were cracked. Anyway, since I bought the...

Central Locking - One Side Not Working

Yes, I agree that electrical problems can be very difficult to track down...thankfully I have solved the problem now! I looked at the passenger side door wiring loom where the door hinges and that was fine, but I did not think to check the drivers side loom...sure enough the large brown wire...

Central Locking - One Side Not Working

Ok so I had the CCM out and it looks absolutely fine, so going to get a VCDS scan and see if I can get to the bottom of it.

Central Locking - One Side Not Working

Thanks for the reply Marek, Yes I did also check the loom and it was fine. I have noticed that actually the drivers side rear door is also intermittent, so I am heavily suspecting the Convenience Control Module. Having looked at the Haynes manual it seems the CCM is in the right hand boot behind...

Central Locking - One Side Not Working

Hi all, Got an issue with the central locking on my A3 8P 2007 Sportback. On the passenger side the doors almost never lock with either the fob or the key in the driver's door. I say almost never because VERY occasionally, say 1 in 25 times they will actually lock. I replaced the lock in...

A3 2.0 TDi 55 Plate DSG buying advice

Thanks Sandra, I have looked through the FAQ section, but did not see anything relating directly to my questions. Cheers Fangio, yes I am planning to try to get the dealer to do it before I pick it up, will go and see it/test drive it and see what he says...I have already got him down by £300...

A3 2.0 TDi 55 Plate DSG buying advice

Hi guys, As above, I am looking to buy a 2.0 TDi DSG for my 55mile each way commute, I know the manual does slightly better MPG but I like the idea of flappy paddles and auto gears for the undoubted traffic i'll hit on the M25 :( I have seen one I like but it is a 55 plate with 64k on the...
