if you take the side of the dashboard off (like the fuse cover but on passenger side) you'll see the mechanism.
first I would pill out the gas strut. start by unclipping the 2 pin plug, then twist and pull.
its quite obvious where the plastic had snapped on mine. I got a soldering iron and...
Had a few flat batteries recently and just got to the bottom of it.
it seems my glovebox piston was snapped - quite common. Although I didnt even know it was supposed to slowly drop down so never noticed it.
It seems that if your leave the interior lights on normal, the car dims all the...
I've had a think about this and there's only one way to practically get around it..
basically the car is looking for current draw, if it doesn't see any the bulb must have blown which = error.
because im feeding a second 12v supply into the sidelights the current draw on the original circuit...
actually scratch that, I've had a look and the multiconnector on the back of the light (pin 1) has a switched 12v on ignition.
pin 10 seems to control the sidelights. When i feed 12v to it directly from the battery they come on. Only problem is i get a bulb error now!
nope, like I said, I've already tried VCDS and it puts both the dipped and sidelights on.
I need to know what colour/pin etc. provides 12v when ign is on.
I'd like to wire in the DRL's that are in my aftermarket headlights.
At the moment they work on the sidelight switch only, and when the auto-headlights turn the dipped beam on.
I would like to wire them in so whenever the car is at IGN position 2 they are illuminated. The DRL options in VCDS...
ok thanks, not sure what happened but the second fob just started working! I logged into VCDS again and it says 2 keys are paired.
Just need to code in a new immobiliser chip now... I've got as far as getting the SKC with commander, and successfully logging into the Immobiliser [25] Security...
I've got the full VCDS v11 and have followed the guide on rosstech for adapting a new fob (buttons only, not immobiliser).

Ok, another question!
I've got the option of buying this... for the sum of £35 !
How likely is it to have the right ecu/slip-ring? Its from 2008. And Danny, yes I do have the sheild type wheel (the airbig will hopefully fit this one).
I just had mine done as I had a fair bit of lacquer peel.
the guy I took it to checked it with his paint depth reader and said it had been done before. Probably with cheap paint and not prepared properly as it clearly hadn't lasted and started to peel.
He took the bonnet down to bare metal...
that makes perfect sense, thanks.
so if I wanted the stalk to work correctly, I would need this?
AUDI A3 2011 S-LINE - STEERING CONTROL MODULE - 8P0953549K | eBay
I'd be interested to hear how the cruise works differently on the 1K0 module.
I've retrofitted to mine, and I can get cruise working if i pull the stalk towards me and flick up or down. but the resume button doesnt work?
I assumed i needed to install the wire?
I think the latest Merc's (possible Audi too) will keep 20 meters from the car in front. So if you set the Cruise control at 70, and the car in front slows down to 60, your car will slow down too. Keeping a 20 meter gap between you. Then when they speed up, or pull off, you will return to 70...
I was lucky enough to win an 8p cruise control stalk from a 2009 A3 on ebay last week. for 99p!!
I fitted it this weekend.. not too difficult. then recoded the engine and steering wheel in VCDS, and it works!
I didnt have the lower steering cowel.. so I modified the old one with a holesaw...
I'd clean it all up with some engine cleaner and keep an eye on it. It could be that its taken ages for that level of oil to build up.. making it hard to see where its actually coming from.
Its a vacuum hose from the PCV (the disk shaped thing).
The PCV is a valve that keeps a vaccum in the head, I'm not sure if that is the cause of the oil.. but If it is you probably have a boost leak there too.
I had this fault a few weeks back, I fixed it by removing the n80 and giving a couple of squirts of WD40.
I believe you can test the N80 if you have a full copy of VCDS.
Thanks for the reply!
I'm talking about two sensors in the cooling system (if there are actually two!).
If your DIS is high, isn't that to do with ambient air temp?
I've only looked at one sensor using VCDS, but on the way home tonight I'll see if I can find another and log both sensors over...
