Does anyone know if the oil pump off a VW is the same as the Audi 2.0? I can get geared pump cheap but its part number is 03G 103 537 B which cross references as a VW part number from what I can gather

Just a quick one, is the part number for the sump stamped on the outside?, as surely this would be a quick sure fire way of telling if the engine has been fitted with the geared pump since the sump is different to the chain driven one.
