Ok unplugged the maf and the car runs. Still got a rattle when in idle and its there when I take my foot off the accelerator just alot faster. Sounds like a helicopter at that point. But when idle sounds like a tapping from behind the engine somewhere

He actually said it could be a blocked cat. So he reckons I should take the cat of and see if the car runs then without stalling. Then obviously if it runs then the fault points to my cat

Sorry it's a 2004 a4 1.8t petrol. Think I will get the repair done and hope it sorts the tapping as well. As was losing power going up hills and couldn't even drive it up a set of ramps to get underneath.
