If your going for the 170 then definately look for quattro, even the 140 feels abit much through the front wheels, imagine if you decide to remap the 170 too.

If youve got a diesel I would just get a dtuk box if I was you. You can remove it to sell on in the future, or return it after a certain amount of days, 14 I think. The reason being if your clutch starts slipping, which is quite likely, then you can adjust the power or return it if your clutch...

As soon as you go over 100 theres no point even looking at your speedo, 140 on the speedo could be moe like 120 in reality, audi say 129 for man 133 for dsg, so using a gps not speedo I doubt anyone has gone any faster than that. My old a3 (140) shown 130 on speedo but the gps said 120-121...

Get a 2.0 tdi a3, last year I bought one for £6000, 60k miles, fsh, loads of extras etc. Put a dtuk box on it and on long journeys I sometimes even saw 60 mpg, theres lots of them in your budget, and I got insured on mine at 19 so you shouldnt have a problems. Its the only option in my opinion...
