I've stopped counting the miles I've done since my inline thermo,it takes about 3 miles to warm up to 89 degrees but then sits there at tick over or at 80mph.....
your all set for winter now mate,warm feet and a more fuel efficient...

i think the garages are having to drop prices in certain areas,to keep the work bays full.plus they might add a few oohs and aahs and you need this and that as most garages try to do,to hike the percentage of profit up on the job.
ultimately though theres no point having mechanics stood...
the following is a generalisation of a cooling system.....i hope audi v6s are the same......mines done 3600 miles since i put my thermostat in my top hose.....still no issues.
A thermostat is placed between the engine and the radiator to make sure that the coolant stays above a certain preset...
I'm only sharing my finds dude...........
my belts done 35k now,so it will be a while before i need to consider it,but I'm with you on garages,the idiots at one never replaced the thermostat when my cars belts were done.....considering its position its stupid not to eh...........
so yeah...
im not sure of the 2.0t but i unplugged mine on a 2.5tdi and noticed it ran and revved up better....but seeing as its tiptronic it throws the gearbox into limp mode when unplugged,so i couldn't drive it to check.
but i fitted a pierburg maf and blimey..........its made one hell of a difference...
oops have i put it in the wrong way for the flow then??????
if i have she's still a runner with 3100 miles since i fitted it....
i put it in the bottom of the hose that goes from the right hand side top of the radiator to a metal stub off the engine block.....its the hose thats got a feed to...

yes thats the r5 gt one that i bought from him......but i found a hotter one from a 340 volvo.....you can only push it in about 30mm from the engine stub end.....dont be shy boss......it works a treat.
cheers,just as an update,I've now done 1000 miles plus and no problems at all,i cleaned the throttle valve and the idling stutter has disappeared.
there is no pressure build up behind the thermostat as i drilled a 2mm hole before i placed it in the hose.....

too add to my post,it were the throttle body that i took off...
ok i fitted the renault 5/volvo 340 thermostat into the top radiator hose.......about 30mm into the hose from where it joins the engine.....89 degrees showing on dash.....
260 miles later and no problems.....except for one i have caused when i took apart the i think intercooler alloy part that...
bodging......im afraid that started when the petrol tank split on me puch maxi.....i strapped an austin allegro washer bottle to the back rack and filled it full of 2 star(17pence worth) and piped it to the carb....i were only 11 haha.
