Hi, Is it not on the left handside of the engine block where the gearbox mates to the engine. Ask the breaker to try and take a picture of the engine number and send it to you. They are awkward to read but with a wire brush or emery paper then rub a bit of chalk or crayon it helps it stand out.

My car has a brd engine which is knackered. What is the story with the interchangeability with other 2.0 tdi engine codes. You what it's like. sounds good at the time then you find out there are subtle difference which are a real pain in the *** to work round. Cheers

Any takers on this, even with the engine out, I can't for the life of me see an engine number anywhere. Obviously a sicker on the cambelt cover but I would have thought that it would be stamped on the block. I may find it when I take all the ancillaries off.
