I wouldnt fully agree with your opinion. The earlier version of multi. was faulty thats right, since 2004 multitronic was improved. People who buy an Audi with such a gearbox often forget about regular service which is ATF oil. It has to be change every 60km. otherwise multi strats slowly brake...

Any way VCDS cable these is what u need , u could then check the ECU for faults and MVB.
I had very similar problem, ATF stream pump, chain, forward clutch had to be replaced.

First of all u have to have VAG then u can check gearbox control unit and also Measure blocks.I have very similar problem and the bad news is no matter what its gearbox has to be strip;(
