My apols - Thought he needed to take off the switch cover. You need to remove the entire door card and get happy with a screwdriver to remove the actual switch unit.

Use something like a credit card to lever it off.

Just done mine over the weekend. Open the ashtray, grip the front of the gearshift surround and pull hard... It's a bit scary as you think it'll snap before it comes free but it'll be alright.
