From the comments on there thats the way it looks. There's a gradual drop in oil pressure as the hex shaft wears until eventually it loses all oil pressure and its often new engine and turbo time!
Hi All,
There's been some noise over on the Briskoda forum that some of the early VAG CR engines used the 77mm hexagonal oil pump drive shaft that was fitted to some of the PD engines and prone to rounding off, resulting in lack of oil circulation and overheating and subsequent seizure of Turbo...
Hi All,
What sort of tyres does the A3 Quattro need?
Do you have to have Runflats / Reinforced to meet the manufacturers specification, etc?
Cheers,
Craig
Interestingly Warranty Direct with their SecureCare policy look like they don't differentiate between premature wear and tear and wear and tear and will cover it regardless (after the first 90 days of the policy).
The way they do this is by having a sliding scale, so between 80 - 90K miles...
So at 2.5 years old / 80K miles would failure of the Quattro system or Turbo (two of the more expensive systems) be considered as premature or normal wear and tear?
If it was more like 60K then I'd feel more confident, but the closer to 100K it gets, the bigger fight I'll have on my hands.
Hi,
I'm looking at an A3 2.0 170 58 Quattro with 80K on the clock.
The garage don't offer a warranty so I'm looking at obtaining my own warranty from Warranty Direct or Warranty Wise, given the cost of the Quattro system, Turbo, etc.
Anyone got any experience of either company? Warranty Wise...
I'm sure I read somewhere that the facelift S3 had the Gen4 haldex which is why I thought the facelift A3 might too.
Is there any obvious way of telling when viewing a car that it's a) got the 170 CR engine, and b) which Haldex version its equipped with?
Cheers,
Craig
Hi All,
Is the late 2008 (facelifted) A3 guaranteed to have the following over the pre facelift models or is there likely to be some cross over in specification?
The 170 CR engine (instead of the earlier PD engine).
The Gen4 Haldex system (instead of the Gen2 system).
Cheers,
Craig
I've made my mind up and decided not to go ahead with the purchase pending the results of the VOSA investigation which is currently ongoing, but if I see a 09 170 with the CR engine, or an earlier 140 I'll still be tempted. The safety aspect of the potential failure was my primary reason, but I...
I've just pulled out of buying a 56 170 S-Line Quattro I was due to collect on Saturday because of stories of many similar issues. It's a far bigger issue across the VAG group than can be attributed to the fact only people with complaints about an issue post on forums (so you don't get to hear...
I've got no issues with Audi and think, in general, they make some nice reliable cars. I also realise VX aren't all that hence looking at a more premium brand. I just kind of wrongly assumed the premium brand would come with premium customer service and aftersales.
Also I've never dismissed...
I realise all cars can have issues but it now feels like I'm buying a ticking time bomb.
I was planning on getting it serviced at an independent dealer, but Audi say the full "good will" gesture applies if you maintain full Audi service history.
There's the inconvenience of breaking down...
It's reassuring to see that there are those out there that haven't had any issues yet (touch wood) but I can't ignore the sheer scale of the reported issue and the dangerous nature of the failure (loss of engine power, power steering, assisted brakes at speed). The fact VOSA are sniffing around...
Okay, I'd kind of already put a deposit on a 2006 56 plate 170 A3 Quattro with 70K miles on the clock before posting this. According to the Audi garage who regularly serviced it, it's never had any injectors or the loom changed so it's now on borrowed time before the injectors start going pop...
Hi All,
I'm looking at an A3 with a 2.0 TDI, 170 PD engine but I've just read some horror stories about the injectors having a fault and causing the engine to lose power, steering stiffening up followed by a rather expensive repair bill.
Anyone on here had similar issues? I can't afford a...
Hi,
I'm still on the hunt for a circa 2007 A3. Ideally I'd like to find one with factory fit Xenon headlights but my specification list has already grown to make it practically impossible to find one as it is.
What sort of costs would I be looking at to aquire and pay for fitting of the full...
Around the £10,500 (trade seller) for the following spec. Seems pretty good from what I've seen so far, so there's a chance it's already been snapped up, but any opinions on price / or things to look out for should I take it for a test drive, etc.
5dr A3 Sportback
Manual
2007 (56 plate)
170...
Thanks to all for the advice so far. I've found a potential contender, although it's a bit older than what I was originally considering. The spec is:
2007 A3 2.0 TDi 170 Quattro S-Line 5Dr.
It's done quite high mileage (90,000) but still looks in good condition and has full Audi service...
Hi All,
I'm currently on the look out for an A3 2.0 TDI (170) Quattro S-Line. To keep it in budget I'm looking for a high mileage one. (around 80k mark).
Just looking for some advice on a few things:
Are there any expensive things that usually go wrong around this mileage / general things to...
