There is no need to "cool down" the turbo on Audis - coolant still circulates after shut down.
Turbo timers are needed in less advanced engines and by those who enjoy the overt trappings of the turbo culture - you know - the flaunted boost gauges etc - goes with the reversed baseball cap
Cheers
Chipped S3 definitely quicker - 0-100kph 5.7, and don't forget this UNDERestimates real world acceleration as a change into third gear is required in the S3.
But real difference is mid-range - 80-120kph 3rd gear S3 is 3.4 - can't remember exact figure for S4 but recall that my S3 was quicker...
Yo Cyuen.
No new mods - just enjoying her as she is - ah - the car of course
Went to Taupo quattro experience. Great day - they let us stretch the cars in full circuits trailing an instructors car and those guys put their foot down!
The A8 impressed me enormously - refined fast and - yes -...
Don't know about Remus for S3 but had a Remus rear box on my earlier A4 1.8T and it was great.
Quality superb and sound deeper and not louder - highly recommend on my experience with the product.
I have Milltek on my S3 and also VERY satisfied on same counts.
Cheers
I researched this several years ago when I had an A4 1.8Tq.
Despite finding no hard evidence in favour of the K&N (PLENTY of "ra ra its fantastic" comments) and some hard evidence that it made no difference to performance, I went ahead and put one in anyway.
And guess what.
NO difference in...
Totally different vehicles.
The RS4 would be far nicer as an everyday driver and long distance cruiser.
But the S3 is a way better drivers car which will thrill you with much more tactile pleasure (yes, I do know its and Audi but it does give a LOT more feedback than the RS4).
Depends what...
Well well - lots of opinion and a few facts here.
M3 IS quicker from zero to 160kph+.
BUT: chipped S3 has stunning mid-range (=real world road usable) torque and stunning wet weather grip. I have totally wasted an M3 on wet twisty road.
My S3 80-120kph 3rd=3.4sec
M3 same split=3.3sec
Not...

Supersprint (available from star performance) are becoming to be regarded as very effective for the S3. There are rather a lot of stories of ill fitting millteks to recommend them...

Not sure I agree entirely David. There are certainly some stories off...
I'm with Ess_three through this thread.
There are PLENTY of better handling AWD rockets out there is that is the only endpoint you are seeking:
Suby WRX
Mitsi Evo
Skyline GTR
and they are a more fun drive on the track too.
S3 an understeerer? Darn right - too heavy in front to do...
Don't forget torque either.
210hp engine has 270NM and 225 has 280NM. Chipped you will get 350-370NM - the differnce is stunning - grin from ear to ear when first experienced - "is this MY car!!"
OK we can never have enough but I am very happy with the sting in my Oettingered baby - yes...
man - you are a sad case - excited about getting an S3??
Guess that makes 2 of us
Modding an S3 is a LOT of fun and VERY rewarding.
250-260hp is easy but the jump to the next level is more involved and a lot more expensive.
The short answer is chip it, chip it, chip it.
that gets you to...
We got married on Saturday and the local dealer kindly lent us another ebony black S3 to match mine. By conincidence its personalised plate also started with "S3".
BTW - we had a GREAT day too
Yup - the stock is in my basement. Restricted it is ++. My feeling is that it is designed to hug the undertray to minimise warranty claims from being too vulnerable. There are many places it is squashed to a fraction of the diameter of the Milltek, and the rear box is like a pancake compared to...
Why worry about what a K&N filter might do to your MAF sensor - just don't fit one. Why not?
Because they cost money and do nothing other than increase the noise of induction which makes people FEEL they are quicker along with all the b*ll hype they've read.
Believe me - I've been there...
Yup, agree with above.
If you want the most sophisticated and smooth clutchless manual box with sequential or automatic changes the DSG is the best available - no question. It's stunning technology.
BUT...
it does take a lot of the fun and driver control out of the driving experience.
