Haha I know :( it's actually close to going into the car now. Just a matter of time...
It did seem like one corner was ever so slightly warped but I think it was due to being roughly handled in the mail. I bent it back with limited force and it was spot on. It looks like a really nice bit of...
I got the sump fitted last week:
Off with the Forge sump...
Compared to the INA sump with much more extensive baffling and enclosing of the pump pickup...
The drain location is in a slightly different location so I had to make some modifications to the drain but this actually meant the...
DSG gets a bad rep mainly from the issues with the DQ200 which is the naff dry 7 speed box. It's undeniable that the newer boxes are pretty impressive in terms of strength and performance. Information I've seen suggests they can change gear in 6ms! While they aren't as involved as a manual, they...
There are a few standalone controllers but they are usually either mega money or there's people like Adrenaline motorsport that won't even sell theirs. I didn't really want to spend loads or have a kind of "piggy back" controller anyway.
I'm not sure how the Ignitron works but with the...
I've not actually got mine running yet but others have done it with success. It's possible on the ME7.5 but there are better options now. ECUMaster EMU Black can communicate with the DQ250 and DQ500. Ignitron could only do the DQ250 when I checked. They were so slow to reply to emails though...
It's been a long while since I've updated the thread. There's been some movement on the engine replacement front. Thanks to help from @IanPG, the old engine and gearbox are now out. I've also made a few other changes. There's probably a lot I've forgotten but here goes...
Brute IX rods, Trend...
I also got a rather epic deal on some B7 RS4/C5 RS6 8 pot calipers. I'll investigate how easy they will be to fit to the S3, otherwise if too much effort is involved then they'll go on the R36. It looks like they'd be ok on a 334x32mm disc but I'd need to remove the brace (which Audi themselves...
Some more minor-ish updates. Getting closer to getting it in now. Need to hire an engine hoist and just go for it.
I decided to make up the coolant lines in hard line as well since doing the drain went easier than expected and it's quite soothing getting the angles etc sorted. For the drain I...
Yeah I knew something was up with the first revision. Comparing two sides (and doubling the stock area) rather than one does result in different maths though - e.g. ~20% vs ~18% for the 18z. Either way, I was expecting the RS6/RS4 calipers to be wildly larger.
I'm not sure if my calculations were correct here. I've only accounted for 3 pistons for the 18z and 17z and 2 for the TTRS/RS3. I've recalculated with all the pistons and added in RS6 calipers...
Stock S3 ATE - 1 pot
54mm x 1 = 2290.22mm
18Z Cayenne/Touareg/Q7 - 6 pots
30/34/38mm

Hey, the "final" offset is ET15 front, ET20 rear. I do use spacers but you can get the pro race in a range of offsets so I'm sure you can get something that works. I only have to run such high offset on the front to clear the 18Z 6 pot Brembos. If you're running smaller brakes then I'm sure you...
It's actually pretty straight forward to do. It just takes a bit of thought and a few practice goes as you can see! The bender I have was only $20 (eBay) but is pretty decent really. It does compress the bends a tiny bit but nothing major. I was lucky that Bunnings sell 3m lengths of 16mm hose...
I've not heard that about the ABS module. It could well be the case. I guess I'll find out soon!
I finally had a spare few minutes this weekend and set about tackling the oil drain. I originally bought the TSR "line kit" when I bought the manifold and down pipe but I've never been happy with...
