Possibly n75 valve? Had this problem where you'd go to pass someone, car initially leaps off like a scalded cat, overboosts and then shuts it off completely (like hitting a brick wall), then goes again. Really dangerous and scary at the wrong time, especially if someone is coming the other way!

Bit of an off topic but I recently had an mot fail on a front arb droplink. Took it off to find the slightest tear in the boot - joint was still fine. Thought it was well harsh.

Must admit I'm surprised to see people looking for a stiffer rear arb. If anything I would have said it's the front that needs stiffening up?

Had some similar issues recently. Duff alternator which lead to a dead battery. Started off just temperamental but eventually died altogether. Checked the voltage terminals with the car running? Should be >14v afaik
