There is another option, a cheap one cost me about $1.
What you do is take the head unit out, on the left hand side there are 3 wires, red, black and white. they are the right, left and ground from the cd player. cut them and wire in a switch (if you to keep the cd player) or wire them straight...
ok cheers for all your help guys, unfortunately the ecu I wanted to buy sold before I could get the money. Maybe I will just have to go to HTA3076 instead of the F4h :)

Its been done over on zine by someone using the 01A box (I think although it might have been a 2.8 box), The final drive on them is different as well, they dont shear diffs. I cant remember if this was good or bad though.

my car has immo 1 with the 557t ecu (its a 1997), the ecu i am buying is a yank 557P ecu out of a 1998 I think without an immo at all. does that mean that I can just plug the new ecu in and follow Immobilizer I ECU Swapping - Ross-Tech Wiki and it should work?
Something to keep in mind though is that the s4 has a different bolt patten on the crank for the 240mm fly wheel, you will have to get a new 240mm clutch for the s4 flywheel, you cant use the A4 flywheel
