Mine was doing the same until I fitted a new thermostat, now running perfect, knuckle joint would defo make it easier, I had to do the bottom bolt with a 10mm spanner, patience wore thin after a while!!
The only way to cure it is to replace the caliper. Iirc there are no caliper rebuild kits available from motor factors although Audi may be able to get them, but its just as cost effective to get a refurb caliper.
Ah right, dunno then, I haven't had any experience with the Quattro models and it kinda sounded like cv joints from your description. I guess you have no warning lights coming on?
I've had a wee 1.6 8l for 3 weeks now and love it! All except the cold running temp :( changed the thermostat and it seems no different. Other than that a great wee car!
