I Have a sportback, took out the subbox, fiberglassed an enclosure and put in a shallow sub (10" Punch P2D2-10) then put a digital amp in the spare battery box. Works a treat!!

Cant help on what the problem may be, however I've just had mine done as part of a service, and they did't have to go near the exhaust manifold. If i remember correctly they have to remove the alternator, but thats about it. Should be about 2hours labour for the thermostat alone
