S3 gearbox like stirring a bag of bolts ...

I'd be interested in what oil they have put in too, as I reckon 15 years is long enough in any car, regardless of mileage.

    GTD engine in S3

I've had the opportunity to drive this car and the level of workmanship is second to none. Everything on this car looks like it came that way from the factory. As for the way it drives - its bang on. My daily driver is a pre facelift, standard, 210 bhp, Audi S3 and I reckon that this STD is a...

    1999 s3 tyre noise

Sound like a good call, I'll tie that in with it's next service which is due in just under 1000 miles.

    1999 s3 tyre noise

I seem to have the same problem, it's like the rear wheels are hopping/dragging only when it's on full lock and you put the power down, the haldex seems to be working fine though. This problem goes away with the haldex fuse pulled as you'd expect, but other than than the haldex seems to be...

Cam belt water pump change shedule

Mileage on my car is just over 80000 and I'd say it was a the original water pump. And the car is 2000 so I'd be going with 13.5 years. Don't know about Audi doing an upgraded part, I get mine from my motor factors. Some have complained about the steel shaft leaking to the impeller on metal...

Cam belt water pump change shedule

Just had my waterpump fail on my S3, timing belt was done 4 years and 20000 miles ago. The plastic impeller came detached from the pump, and then disintegrated, and believe me you don't want that to happen. If the pump hasn't been replaced with one with a steel impeller you'd be better off to...

    Power Steering Pipes?

Why are these on the S3 and not on the Golf, etc? Given that they are so troublesome, and the Golf can do without it, would removal of this pipe not be a good idea?

    Clutch/brake Fluid

Yes, they come from the same master cylinder. If you're going to the effort of bleeding the brakes you may as well do the clutch too, it only takes a minute.

    Ignition problem

Two years ago I had a really bad intermittent starting problem that I couldn't sort for months. It had the dash lights fading too. In the end it turned out to be the grub screws had vibrated slightly loose on the switch at the base of the ignition barrel. It too was intermittent and got worse...

    rear caliper

Doing mine at the moment, my only real tip for you is don't remove the internal circlip holding the handbrake mechanism. All that is under it is an O ring and it doesn't wear and the circlip will probably break while you take it out (both mine broke!) Audi won't sell you the circlip just...

Speedo sensor / instrument cluster problem.

Unplugged the sensor and it made no difference. Still no fault codes. Surely if the clocks weren't connected properly the output test wouldn't work?

Speedo sensor / instrument cluster problem.

Everything is connected properly in the instrument cluster, cams working and cliping in ok and pins are all straight. Surely the output test wouldn't have worked if it wasn't connected properly, would it? This problem isn't intermittent, speedo doesn't move at all.

Speedo sensor / instrument cluster problem.

Good thinking, I'll check that out and get back to you.

Speedo sensor / instrument cluster problem.

I had the instrument cluster out of the car and a few days after the speedo stopped working. Removed the cluster again and ensured that all connections were good but still no joy. Scanned the car for errors and only got the oil level sensor fault that I've had for a few months now, but nothing...

    S3 rear brake caliper circlip.

Ok, contacted biggred.co.uk who I bought the seal kit from and they said that they can supply the circlips for me. Not cheap at £15 but most of that is postage to Ireland, and is cheaper than a set of calipers. They seem really helpful, here's hoping the circlips are the right ones. An option...

Brakes binding after new pads and discs... Help!

As Jay said are the calipers moving freely on the pins? Did you clean and grease them while you had the calipers off?

    S3 rear brake caliper circlip.

Anyone have an idea on this? Here is a photo of the circlip with the last 3mm broken off on one side.

    16" steels on my s3?

I run 16" steel wheels on my S3 for about 4 months of the year. They are the standard VW steel wheels and are close to the calipers so just be careful when you are getting the wheels banded that you don't adjust the offset on the inside of the wheel.

    S3 rear brake caliper circlip.

While changing out the seals on my rear calipers (2000 S3) I had to remove the circlip under the piston, this holding the handbrake mechanism within the caliper in place. On the first one I had the circlip nearly fully removed when it snapped, so on the second one I was extra careful but it...
