    Highest mileage S3? RIP?

Well it was in 2005 when I sold it. Maybe if I'd kept it for another 10 years I could have sold it for more. The 80s is when I had it on the road. Seems like only yesterday :racer:

    Highest mileage S3? RIP?

Thanks for the sympathy and I've been there with the back burner job..... with an old RS2000 custom on an Irish plate which I took off the road to repair due to stress cracks in the body from the rally spec suspension and a faulty oil control ring which I fixed. Ten years later .... when it...

    Highest mileage S3? RIP?

Sorry I've not replied until now but things have been busy and I forgot my password. I managed to beat the insurance up a bit but only because one of their models for estimated value at 150k miles was below market example prices, so they ratio'd up the Glass's guide estimate for 300k miles by...

    Highest mileage S3? RIP?

I might stop winging and do that but I'm not done with the insurance yet. I need to find a repairer too.

    Highest mileage S3? RIP?

This is an interesting point. I'm not contacted to the third party insurer in any way so do not have to follow their opinion or their policy or rules. There is a common law tort of negligence which entitles the injured party to claim for recompense to be put back into the same situation before...

    Highest mileage S3? RIP?

My trusty 2000 Audi S3 Quattro which I bought in 2009 with ~120,000 miles on the clock, I've since taken up to 290,500 miles on the original engine. I've run it on fully synthetic ester based oil which is how the engine has lasted along with most miles being motorway. I drive it like it's meant...

The 12 year warranty does not require a service history. As I found, the bubbles can be due to paint delamination at paint pinholes and there is no actual rust there underneath on the galvanised body. If rust has started, more likely at exposed corners, then this must be because after the...

    Too low for the sump!

I hit a raised manhole in a council roadworks section in Trafford Park today in my S3. The car is bog standard height but that's a little low to start with - it might serve as a warning to what can happen. The council have been resurfacing the road and have removed the top surface of tarmac...

Yup. Too much needless complexity driven by car and component manufacturers trying to keep a differential between them and far east manufacturers who can beat them on price making the older technology items.

I definitely prefer a proper handbrake. The motorised contraption is more to go wrong, you need a computer to change the pads and isn't progressive - if you use it in an emergency or something catches it - it's full on! I also found on the odd occasion it wouldn't release with me almost dragging...

Really, measuring paint depths is no way to presume a car has had a dodgey paint job. Firstly, a car can be resprayed in the factory because of accidental damage on the assembly line or a visible defect - there won't be any record of that! And also if an Audi dealer, using approved processes...

I picked the car up yesterday and I must say that Manchester Audi / Car Cosmetics have done an excellent job with the paintwork - it looks like a new car again. It was good to find out about the origin of the bubbles in the paint not being through rust as it restores some faith in the galvanised...

Well I had a look into the body shop on the way home and learned something. I spoke to the paint shop and they explained that sometimes, microscopic pinholes in the paint due to stones etc., which are too small to see with the naked eye, can allow water to penetrate under the paint, especially...

I just had an interesting phone call about my S3. They are doing the roof 100% anyway. They have had a look at the rear wheel arches and say that "it's not come through" i.e. it's a paint defect. This surprises me as I can't see how a cluster of smooth domed bubbles should appear with no paint...

Audi CS have now agreed to do the roof corrosion 100% but have apparently insisted that the other panels are put in on separate claims which Manchester Audi were trying to keep on one claim. Audi CS have also said that the corrosion on the doors and wheel arches have started from the outside...

Odd steering noise - any ideas?

I tried some more grease on the rack inder the bellows but this seems to have made no difference. With someone else turning the steering wheel back and forth today It seems to be coming from the rack as you can feel it in the tie rod but not the outer or lower ball joints. I've tried altering...
