Of course they would say that. They're in business. The half a dozen Audi dealerships I sub for have had no issues. Checked by Mastertechs too.

Cameras are auto calibrating so unless the the device was unplugged (and the car was put through an ignition cycle) it shouldn't need doing. There are other factors to consider but this is the general process.

Not clear from the image, but it looks like more than one impact with a few cracks running from the middle of it all. Many repairers do not know what a good repair looks like never mind how to achieve one. Some links on the subject which, I think, covers most angles...

Slipping the windscreen in behind the wipers (or not removing the wiper cowl) is known as bombing/diving/scuttling/stuffing/slip 'n slide... Basically a botch; a lash up. Some even get good at it, but it will always be a bodge.

When you say pressure, do you mean stress fracture? Spontaneous glass breakage (in laminated windscreens) is so rare it is unheard of. IME, it is usually attributed to *something*, such as poor fitting; an issue with the adhesive; an impact; pressure on the glass from inside.

I take your point about tyre performance, but I was trying to use it as an example to highlight the issue of premium products/brand consistency/preserving the market value of a vehicle. Also, there is an issue when it comes to manufacturer warranty insofar as if there was an issue with anything...

Yep. Impact. Remember, glass is thinner. A sandwich construction of two layers of glass with a vinyl inter-layer won't absorb much of an impact, especially if the temperature is higher (the PVB layer softens).

Can you post up an image of the other end of it? From the glass edge, please. While you're there, run a ball point pen/sharp pencil/metal scriber along the length of the crack. If you feel a little dink along the way, that'll be your impact point. Cracks usually don't just happen...
