If your BLB is having the full chain conversion to the gear driven version this is NOT a half day job. , be warned .
If you are simply replacing the tensioner and chain etc this may well be a half day job but what exactly are KMB doing that will take only half a day?
You cant tell from the Chassis number what the oil pump/balance shaft drive configuration is. Not even Audi can do this . To understand what you have you need to drop the sump and have a look.
If your car is a BLB engine it has the chain driven set up period.
You have the "cheap fix " option to estimate for, lucky you.
My own car is the BLB engined unit and that failed circa 4/5 years back at 68,000 miles. Back then the only fix available was by Audi (KMB repair kits etc didnt exist) and we paid dearly for the repairs.
That said my car is now 10...
Your car will have a gear driven oil pump/balance shaft assembly and you can't read anything in the VIN number. If in anyboubt then you need to drop the sump, good luck !
I would say almost defineteley a Dual Mass Fly wheel failure.
Typical cost for new a clutch and DMF including labour at in Independent will be circa £850.
Boom, sounded like a shotgun had gone off in the car !
Latest failure to hit my 2.0 tdi was the EGR Cooler blowing off .
Total loss of any power thereafter with a maximum speed of 40mph being attainable.
Sounded like the exhaust had dropped off when driving but I managed to limp it home.
Total...
I have a BLB and I had the oil pump / balance shaft issue sorted 5 years ago and at circa 68k. My car is now on nearly 120k and is 10 years old.
In the last 5 years I have had to replace the egr and the turbo and the car is now worth about £2k for a private sale.
I will keep mine now as for...
A few points to note re the lack of response to your survey :
Dont' forget a lot of those with the failures have moved on to other cars and the new owners won't know about the issues.
There are also lots of Audi owners who aren't on this forum
The B7 are old cars now and a lot will have been...
Cost of the complete balance shaft module from Audi is approximately £900 ( well it was four years ago when I bought one and before the after market solutions became available ).
This is for the module only and excludes all the other bits and fitting etc
I had almost exactly the same symptoms on my BLB and we concluded it was either the turbo vanes sticking or the EGR.
In the end a replaced EGR solved my problem , good luck .
The Watchdog thing has all been tried before , all to no avail, read this 29 page thread from the beginning and all will be revealed.
Don't forget a lot of these cars are now getting old and moving into the "banger" class by the standards of most modern motorists and as such the media is also...

This sort of thing I would expect from a vauxhall not an audi.
Unfortunately Audi are these days no better than any other car and a lot worse than most.
They trade on the name forged in the 80's and early 90's and there reliability and quality today are a myth based on some rather good...
I have had this symptom on two occasions.
Once when the compressor seized and I needed a new one,
Second time when the pressure switch ( behind the near side headlamp) failed
and it can also occur if the system needs a regas or has a leak .
Good luck, I hope its the cheap regas option?
In my experience of this issue and I have been on the case for the last three/four years the Audi stance has always been the warranty is 60,000 miles or three years period !. Any failures outside this window have been partly compensated for under the Main dealers "good will " gesture and subject...
The 2.0tdi had the balance shafts introduced to produce a smooth running and refined engine.
Hence should the shaft be removed it will not run as smooth as one with the balance shaft.
The big problem is they messed with a reliable engine design ( 1.9tdi ) to produce one that is no where near as...
