Maybe it's the head gasket? Started to lose some coolant too and slight mayonnaise on the oil cap.

But surely me disconnecting the maf and the engine struggling more so than when it's connected means that it is not the maf?

Definitely not the MAF, I disconnected it and the engine struggles to stay running. Any more ideas? I haven't had the car serviced in ages which doesn't help. Spark plugs haven't been changed for at least 17,000 miles??

Sorry, I meant immobiliser light. It does go out which makes me believe that it isn't immobiliser related. It's just annoying that it will start one day and not the next. Will check the starter motor in the morning, anything else I should check tomorrow?
