Its strange but the underside of the oil filler cap looks fine when the engines cold but more of a caramel colour when the engines hot .
Think your right - nowt to worry about.
Hi
I've got a thin light brown water'y film on the inside of my oil cap. I've been a bit worried I might be getting water in the oil.
No other symptoms and the caramel film is not syrup'y just watery
Is this normal??
Thanks
Iain
I got a A6 1.9 TDi manual and now average 45mpg. However, before I fitted 17" alloys I used to get 51mpg. You tend not to realise how much of a difference these things make...........
Drivers door seems o be getting stiffer and stiffer to open. Tried oiling the hidges but no difference.
Anybody know what the little bolt under a black plastic cover does on the top door hinge???
Hey, you should all be pleased.
If the ugly duck is the new TT is means the trade in value of the old TT is going to remain as healthy as it is now......
for those doing a search. 3 clips hold in in place left, right and middle and then it comes away perpedicular to the windscreen with a bit of wiggling.
Anybody know how to do this? Had a quick look and I can slide off the large plastic panel (that covers the battery, etc) easily enough but its not clear how the smaller panel comes off (thats on the bottom of the windscreen and with the wiper spindles protrude through).
Thanks
Iain
Think the 1.9TDi is good for big miles. You see a lot for sale with 150K+ on the clock. I've done 10K with mine without any problems (mines now got 112Kmiles).
If you were very heavy with the right foot you may drop down to 40+mpg
My mpg of 52mpg is about 20mins town driving and about 25minites on the motorway. If I limit the topspeed to 70mph I can get nearer 60mpg but as it is I cruise around 80mph. There is plenty of power when cruising and you never have to change down. I might try going for the 115bhp engine as the...
Ahhh!!! I noticed and fixed that at the weekend but just couldn't beleive the water would run to the rear footwell when the front was virtually dry. Thought it must be something else!
Thanks for that.

Getting soaking wet carpet on the rear passenger footwell (drivers side) . I'm half suspecting a leaking rear screen wash pipe (estate) as the car has had a new rear wing.
Anybody know an easy way to find the pipe??? (I can see it in the rear wing compartment)
Thanks
Just replaced all 3 exhaust mounts and it seems to have improved things. I can still hear the resonance at 1500 & 2500rpm but the volume and amout of exhaust shake has been reduced. Its a cheap and easy job but only really worth replaceing the middle 2 mounts and leaving the one at the very...
