It is most probably caused by rubbish getting in the window runners. This happened to me and it actuall made my window jump out of its runners!

Have you tried spraying the window runners with a bit of silicon spray lubricant. Its amazing what a difference cleaned and lubricated runners can do. My rear window kept popping out of its runners until I gave it a clean and a spray.

I don't know if you have already given it a go yet but if not... No Fix rear seats are not interchangeable with folding ones due to the metal work. I have a 2002 Saloon and also looked into this.
It would require cutting out the metal work behind the rear seat and welding in new mountings...
