Ok sorry to open an old thread but the problem has been solved on this one, it ended up being the injector seals, after lots of research it was decided that the tandom pump could also have been contributing so this was changed as well, it was fixed by M.C diesel services in Luton and the guys...

Its definatly a weird one, even the guys at audi are stumped, one mentioned that the cam lobes are worn and a new camshaft would be needed, that sounded strange to me as it drives fine the rest of the time with no rattles or anything like that, he also said that if it didnt solve the problem...
