    Buying a Audi A4 Convertible

Everyone is going to push you towards what engine they have in theirs, best bet is to test drive some, 1.8T, 2.4 V6, 3.0V6 and maybe some diesels if that's your fancy. Incidentally, the 1.8T and 2.4 V6 are approx the same BHP (170) but the 1.8T can be remapped for £300 or so to nearer 200BHP...

    Window reg fitment issue

Buy cheap, buy twice! My original lasted 10 years, my original replacement @ £80 will also last 10 years, eBay specials are made from inferior materials, but if you like to pull your door to pieces every 1 or 2 years that's up to you, I have better things to be getting on with.......

    interior lights

Maybe a daft answer, but on mine they are linked to the door you are opening, so opening the drivers side only illuminates that side, opening the passenger door only illuminates the passenger side.

VCDS Engine error please help 1.8T

Could this be linked to the little one way valve that sits in some small bore pipe work under the inlet manifold, when mine went it brought up similar codes.

    Lack of heat in cabin

Let us know how you get on, I have read a lot about this on another er, forum (vwaudi forum) one user had flushed his matrix both ways, even removed it from the car and used some ill sounding substance through it, he still ended up replacing the matrix. Has yours been topped up with the...

1.8T BEX engine crankcase breather valve

Replace both, get genuine Audi ones, they are not expensive. The one way valve in the pipe work under the manifold area will take out the ufo looking one at he rear of the engine if it is goosed. I changed both of mine on my BEX engine last year, my eml was on and tick over was up and down.

    Lack of heat in cabin

I have also heard of heating issues that were only resolved by fitting a new matrix, apparently they use an anti burst matrix, so even if it becomes fully blocked water will still flow in and out of the hoses, even flushing won't work. If you are 100% sure your water pump and thermostat are good...

    Gear box oil which one??

I would either buy direct from TPS or try the Redline Mtf, that's supposed to be very good.

Crome; new lease of life needed!!

you will be lucky to make it shine like new again, certain years were plastic and others are polished and lacquered aluminium. With the alloy ones it would be possible to break through the lacquer with some fine wet and dry paper and polish and re lacquer, but this would be a mammoth task. On...

Advice on rear springs please 2004 S line Quattro 1.8T

Hi as per heading I have a 2004 Sline 190 Quattro, I have had a rear spring break, the last little pigtail. I have bought 1 new replacement from TPS which is part numbered S8E0 511 115 FL, this part number supersedes 8E0 511 115 DL The new spring I have is the correct one for my vehicle as I...

    B6 tyres

I too am on my second set of Vortis on my 1.8T Quattro, got them for 77 each delivered from Oponeo, 235/40/18 extra load, running mine at 39 psi all round and wearing spot on. Not had any issues at all, even running in the snow in Wales over Xmas!

Water seems to be trapped in bottom of front door seal

Sorted this, yes it does have a double gutter, the outer one has 2 drain holes, one at the front and one at the back, the inner one does not have drain holes, so obviously water is not expected to congregate in this area. I did not want to cut into the seal, so I used a very sharp scriber with...

    Engine temp issue

Thermostat or water pump, don't bother with eBay rubbish, if the thermostat is the same as my 1.8T then it's not a 5 minute job, and you certainly don't want to be doing it twice. The water pumps run a plastic impeller which either breaks up or spins on the shaft, always replace water pump with...

    First timer with clay bar

Do you need to use any lubricant on the clay mitt? I fancy giving this a go on the Cab!

Water seems to be trapped in bottom of front door seal

Hi there, as my heading, I have a 55 plate cabriolet, whilst cleaning it the other day I ran some Crytox seal lubricant over my door seals and noticed the front door seal was holding water as I ran my fingers along it, there are 2 drain holes I can see but the water is not coming out of these, I...

Some questions regarding A4 Avant 1.8T

I don't think that last one (the silver one) is a genuine s-line, it was the limited edition with the 17" wheels, although it does have the correct interior. The door kick plates should have s-line on them, and i think also only 2004 04 and 54 plates, that one is a 53. Be aware of the tax...

    HELP PLEASE

The misfire on cylinders 1 and 2 is probably down to the coil packs packing up, it would also throw up an engine management light. This would not cause the squeeling that you describe, i have exactly the same car as yours, and similar mileage, i have had several coil packs go down, i carry spare...

    locking wheel nut

Why don't you drill off the remaining nut, just as far as the wheel with a drill a bit bigger than the diameter of the thread. If you use a nice sharp drill and go nice and slow with some cutting oil it will soon come out.
