A quick email to audi-america has quelled my concern over the oil consumption. They claim ALL 2.8/2.6 engines consuming up to 1.5L between oil changes (5000 miles) are to be declared "normal" comsumption rates. You should see the allowed limit for the 1.8T. Its in upwards of 1.75L.

Forgot about that one. The 1.8 trans has shorter 1st and 2nd gears and the 2.8L trans has a better 5th gear ratio for cruising. 2.6, S4 and TDI use the 4.11 final drive ratios so they are out unless you get a matching final drive also.

any O1A trans will work as long as its not for a s4 or tdi. I have a 1.8T trans behind my 2.8 right now.
