Unfortunately around that age 05, 06 my budget will extend to £8k. Would prefer the 3.0 purely for a bit more power. However dodgy injectors are the last thing I need! May have to have a rethink.

Cheers for the replies. Looks like the A6 is the way to go. The only thing that bothers me is the 6 is a whopper in terms of weight and looks.....but it's a peach of an engine so it shouldn't have any probs dragging it around.

Don't do it, ive been a diesel man for the last couple of years golf mk4 130bhp tdi and mk5 170 tdi and im on the lookout for an S3 8l or mk5 gti. The novelty of fuel economy wears off after a while and you'll be bored. Unless your doing big miles.......you'll regret it!

Great..after much deleberation i'd finally made a decision to buy an S3(e46 330ci and type r being the other alternatives) and i read this.....better stay off the forum for a few weeks whilst choosing the car, these things can make you paranoid!!

Phew, scary stuff. I was on the lookout for an S3 and remap it, however after reading this thread i dont think i'll bother. Although i really want one of these cars and have always had vw/audi. Think i might take a trip to the darkside and go for a Ep3 type R or 330ci with less reliability issues!

Waw! All ive ever had is vw/audi/skoda all tdi's apart from the octavia II TFSI which was a lovely engine but could'nt tolerate the roadnoise!! Never had the 1.8t......didn't realise they were that high maintenance!

Decisions, decisions hey, do i go with the heart or head!! Fortunately im an old man of 37yrs so not quite in the same predicament as you. Have to say the S3's look ****** lovely though!
