Fuel tank sender unit....!
Can't tell you how much to fix as mine was still under warranty. Do a quick search on here and you will see my post at the time.
Only problem I've had is the fuel gauge not working....
It costs nearly £100 to fill from empty and returns 29mpg, I hope he likes spending money on fuel!!
I also get the impression the sender unit is not of the 'float' type. I'm suspecting that it may be of a capacitance probe type system? Have no real info on this though.
Hi, this is how mine started out. It would only happen now and again at first, but after about 6 months it was pretty much u/s for 99% of the time.
I cannot say how much it cost unfortunately as it was under warranty and they didn't specify. I do know it involves draining the tank and poss...
Last year it indicated intermittently, for the last 2 months it has read zero.
Went in to main dealer today to have the fuel tank wiring loom replaced, they rang me at 4pm to say that it hadn't fixed it and that they had logged a tech query with Audi as they were stuck...... Great!

Are you sure? Why is this?
I've disconnected mine several times without any problems. What possible interface has the battery got with the car apart from providing 12v.....?
P.S Mine is also a 2006 Avant.
