Try swapping cam position sensors too so you can rule them out. If it’s an upper tensioner gone it may be possible to get to it with engine in like on the 3.2 v6 which share same upper tensioner sand are a common fail. Pig of a job though.

Sounds like you need VCDS or Vagcom to change long coding in engine module. clutch switch can be temperamental so check that is working also
