With my VX220 I had the alignment "adjusted" by some professional motorsport types as the factory setup was conservative (leading to towards safe understeer). Most VX owners do this, as it improves handling no end. I have wondered if there are specialists with S3's which could do the same -...
6k-9k - making me feel a bit better! Was looking at the state of the tarmac on the way home yesterday - it's pretty rough in places - suspect it's gonna take it's toll on the tyres :( And it's NSL for 12miles from home to town, virtually no traffic so the S3 gets tonked very regularly.
As...
Took car down to Audi, they checked alignment etc - all correct, they also measured the tyre depth (I couldn't - seem to lost all my depth gauges under piles of family stuff in the garage!) - outside rears low (2mm and 1.6mm) but the majority of the tyres are 3mm all over - so legal for a bit...
So have just killed my first set of tyres on my S3 sportback after just under 6000 miles!
So obviously somewhat surprised!! First some facts:
1) Brand new 2009 S3 sportback with OEM tyres (Conti Sport Pilot IIRC?) with magnetic ride.
2) Used almost entirely on my commute to work/school...
Have mag ride - definite difference in modes - sport is much harder than stock, normal mode a little closer to s-line. I use the split personalities a lot - me on my own on B road versus family bus mode. Does seem to improve the handling a little too - but not enough testing of the stock ride...
Due to directional tyres - you'd have to take the tyres of the wheel to swap them to different sides of the car.
Probably I'd agree with the summary which appears to be if you rotate back to front often enough the grip from all 4 tyres is the same - so as would be new out of the box.
If you...
tyres = most important part of the car - they stop/go/turn/etc. Don't skimp, go with the handbook and change all 4 together. Eagle F1's tyre of choice at the mo - have them on A4 - excelent, will swap S3 to those as soon as I've killed the current OEM set.

Slightly off topic - but where do you store the handbook? The A4 has a slot under the steering column, but the S3 doesn't seem to have any place it fits nicely.
Appreciate where you're coming from - S3 ends up as the logical small family car after something like a TT. We had a mk1 TT 225 and a VX220 turbo before the family came allong. Whilst the S3 isn't as special as the other two, it provides some grins!

I just used Windows 7 (should work in Vista too) to drag folders of MP3s on a disk, and let it burn it as a data CD. WMP (I've configured it to rip MP3 rather than WMA) stores tracks with an initial track number in the name - Symphony shows track and album (folder name), artist etc -...
lifeshine take it or leave it. I'd haggle for something else they can either retrofit or add to the build if it's not been already scheduled. Meantime at least you've got 2 extra doors and free wear and tear ;)

Mag ride comfort is slightly softer than stock (IIRC from the test drive of the stock car), closer to s-line. Sport mode is much harder that the normal S3 setup. I'm happy with it, as keeps the family comfee, and gives me something better to "play" with on my own.
Having said that, sport...
OK - so reset the one flaky window now, and still no remote all open/close, started fiddling with the DIS setup and low, there's a "convenience" setting for Windows - ticked it to automatic and things are working again.
Would the flaky window have turned this off, or could it be a side effect...
On our A4 holding the open/close down on the key opens/closes all the windows - I'm sure my S3 did this once, but seems to have stopped - am I losing my mind? Should it do it?
Paul
Here here! from a fellow Mag Ride owner. My only wish would be for more choice of settings - which you could get from aftermarket, but no so easy to access while driving along. Defination think the mag dampers control each corner better than the std setup.
