Check the link out it states even the the S3 is Dubbed Quattro it is a Front wheel drive car with the Haldex system that kicks the rear in if need be.

All s3's have a electric pump which keeps the coolant pumping around the car for a while after the engine is switched off. Described on some Audi spec websites as Turbo timer.
Put your ear to the front left of your car (Bumper) after you have switched the car off you will hear the pump.

The S3 runs front wheel drive then when you loose grip and your Front wheels spin the rear will kick in. Ratio of 70-30. If you set off gently and apply the power slowly on ice you shouldn't really get wheel spin.
If you want permanent 4wd swap Haldex for a TT one 60-40 permanently.
