I'm with RAC and their 'essentials' vehicle inspection is £135, not sure if this even includes a diagnostic, and their 'plus' inspection is £183! I can't afford that right now, even though I know this could save money in the long run.
Thanks for the suggestions. I am not mechanical at all :S
If it was the maf how much do you think this could cost to replace/fix?
I'm trying to decide whether or not to take a gamble on this car, as it is very nice just apart from this idle. Its also far away from me to go view.
Was wondering if anyone can give me some quick advice on a car I might be looking to buy
Its from a trader who took it in p/ex.

Hi all, once I have sold my E34 BMW 525i I am looking to buy a B5 1.8T Avant auto or 1.9 diesel (as I spend most my driving time stuck in traffic). Would you say that the B5 is a relatively hassle-free motor? My mum had a 1.8T Quattro for a while and it was great. I don't want to spend as much...

Here's my standard 2000 A3 1.6 Sport. Still haven't got new alloys yet -- saving up!
The car is dirty as I have just got back from a 2000 mile round trip to Spain, it was a joy driving this.
Well done mate, my 1.6 A3 is also my first car and I love it - I'm sure you will too! Seems like you got it for a good price too. I'd hold off from getting alloys + a drop straight away. You're gonna want to save your cash for a few surprises you may find.
