    diesel tt, good idea?

    Nae chance of the 3.0 TDi finding it's way into a TT. Whilst It may well be desireable, it is too damn heavy. The word on the ground is that it'll be a 2 litre next generation diesel generating 204bhp.

    3.2 un-restricted top speed?

    I had a 170 TDi for a few months and whilst it never let me down once, I quickly tired of it. The diesel clatter was so tedious and such a turn off. The 3.2 in the TT is silky smooth and with S-tronic (nee DSG) in Sport mode it is blisteringly fast.:footy:

    DSG (Top Gear mag latest take)

    Having been an early adopter of S-Tronic (nee DSG) there is no way that I'd ever go back to a tedious manual. Whether you prefer Drive or Sport, Paddles or Tiptronic, it is a brilliant piece of engineering.

    Conti Sportcontact 3's

    I've got factory fitted Conti 3's on the TT and very happy with them. Excellent grip in both wet and dry conditions and very little tyre roar. Only downside is that 19 inchers don't come cheap.

    The 170 story so far....

    I did over 8k in mine (SB 170 DSG S-Line) before changing it and during the 7 months that I owned it, it didn't put a foot wrong. Decent economy @ 40mpg together with storming performance aint bad. No electrical problems and it only used 1/2 litre of oil.

    170 TDI DSG fuel consumption

    I've just completed 5 months and 6,000 in my 170 DSG SB and am averaging 43.8mpg according to DIS. However, the actual mpg is 41mpg. I do about 45 miles per day on mostly country roads and have a tendency to, er, floor it.
