    Stretch bolts

I've also re-used some but then I read horror stories about the damage a used stretch bolt does to an aluminium thread. Here in SA the 3rd party car part suppliers don't seem to stock bolts so the options are the dealers and bolt manufacturers. One dealer parts guy hints that their mechs go to...

    Stretch bolts

Anyone? Or do you folks just re-use the bolts?

    Left rear body panel removal

@aragron - I was afraid of that. ETKA shows it as one part for the whole side of the car, but shows no mounting bolts. @S3featesV9 - It could probably be repaired a bit better, but would not be worth the effort to be honest. You can just see that the arch has been rolled if you look up close.

    Stretch bolts

I'm about to change the suspension on my car and as usual half the bolts are stretch bolts that should theoretically be replaced. Has anyone ever sourced these from a bolt supplier rather than from Audi? ETKA shows all the sizes but I'm always worried that 3rd party bolts might not be the right...

    Left rear body panel removal

Is it possible to remove/replace the rear body panels on the S3 (the panel that includes the wheel arch)? A previous owner did a crappy repair job on the wheel arch and I might be able to source a replacement panel from a scrapyard if that panel can be replaced...

    Custom silicone hosing guide/faq needed

Hi all I'm looking for any info on how custom silicone hoses (ex: intakes) are put together. I'm mainly curious about the splicing. Are clamps and joiners used or are there less clumsy ways of doing it. I've seen people use tape, but it would be nice to get more info on that technique. At the...

    Button

Lol, :rtfm: Haven't tried disabling mine, but iirc from the manual, the lights on the door lock knobs flash rapidly for the first few seconds after locking to indicate the motion sensor is active. I guess if you turn it off they'll flash slowly from the start. Should be easier than cupping...

****** brakes, now pedal makes new noise

I've been thinking about the noise from the pedal. The only moving (compressing) part I know of down there that has any air in it is the rubber boot around the rod from the pedal to the master cylinder. I suspect that when my pedal first went to the floor it damaged the boot and the sound I...

    Some (noob) brake questions

Thanks s3ollie! Yeah, the boost pipe was the main thing. I ended up taking the whole boost pipe off to get more room to remove the toothed belt cover, which had to come off so there was more room to move the pipe with the gray shielding out of the way (the one connected to the fluid reservoir...

    Some (noob) brake questions

Thanks; I have actually decided to not take the Brembos, even at half the price of a new set. That's just too much cash for something that doesn't even come with a warranty! There's a local company (South Africa) called Powerbrake that makes great brake kits (machined calipers with 2-piece...

    Brake questions

I'm currently looking at a second hand Brembo GT kit and need some info to make up my mind. Unfortunately the kit comes with the drilled discs, which appear to be crap by most accounts.. I've read all I can on these forums, so please bear with me if these are stupid questions: 1 -...

    Some (noob) brake questions

Another question for the list: Can other calipers (ex: Brembo GTs) provide noticeably better heat dissipation? I'm sure the choice of discs can make quite a difference here, but was just wondering whether calipers can affect how easily your fluid boils...

****** brakes, now pedal makes new noise

To answer some of my own questions for the benefit of other readers, check the following link: http://www.stoptech.com/tech_info/wp_warped_brakedisk.shtml# Myth #4 - Warns that fluid needs to be bled off after boiling. Of course the degree of degradation probably depends on many factors so...

****** brakes, now pedal makes new noise

Cool, thanks for the replies! Bit strange that only some of them seem to do that and that mine suddenly started doing it (unless I just never noticed it before ). But at least now I know of two other people with the same "symptom" so I don't need to lose sleep over it :). Still curious...

Bump Anyone at least have a response regarding the noise from the pedal? Is this common/normal?

****** brakes, now pedal makes new noise

I made the noob mistake today of letting a couple of people test-drive my S3 without cooling off in between. Result: boiled fluid. At least that's what I believe happened. After the session I let the engine run for about 5 min to cool everything down (stationary tho), and when I moved the car...
