I tried to get mine out when the engine was warm, but no go. I then had a go in the morning when it was cold and bingo :). Maybe use a bigger tool as well.
Having that gone will meaning the engine will always think its cold and use more petrol as a result. Get it changed and you should see a slight increase in mpg :)
