    Dual Mass Flywheel Problem

Hi, Needed the similar part for a 2001 S3 recently and got it from GSF (www.gsfcarparts.com). Cheapest by far in my case and it was a OE supplier item. Big job fitting it though. Good luck.

    I HATE MY CAR!

Read the fairly recent thread "Engine chirping noises on start up". If your noises are similar, get ready for another possible spend!! Good luck!

    Engine "chirping" noises on startup

Hi, This is a copy of my post on the S3 forum, which may be of help/interest to other turbocharged car owners: This is by way of a summary of my searches for an answer to these noises. They came about on start up, when the engine made chirping noises, which disappeared after a few seconds. It...

    Boost Circuit Diagram?

Absolutely agree with your obs concerning a low mileage car!! What worried me about the turbo was the fact that I had no idea as to how close the thing might be to grenading! If not grenading, the bearings breaking up and pieces being ingested by the motor! I wasn't interested in the...

    Chirping engine noise on startup.

Hi, This is by way of a summary of my searches for an answer to these noises. They came about on start up, when the engine made chirping noises, which disappeared after a few seconds. Possible avoid the noises by driving gently, but stop the engine and fire up again and the chirps return. I...

    Boost Circuit Diagram?

Last update: The car was collected from MSD in Llandybie last night. Beside the fitting of a new KO4 tubocharger, the clutch, master and slave cylinders and dual mass flywheel were also replaced. Again to the point: all turbo noises on start up gone!!! What's more, a hugely improved car as...

2002 S3: Can this be a slipping clutch?

Thanks for the input and correct daignosis. I just could not understand how a clutch could be finished at 47k miles. Gearbox out and culprit was the gearbox oilseal- oil over the clutch and a replacement is being fitted. That's not too bad, but also: Dual mass flywheel has excessive play and...

    Boost Circuit Diagram?

So, update time. Just returned from MSD, who are doing the clutch and I am recovering from an expensive meeting. Plenty of meat on the clutch, but it has been terminally damaged by oil via a leaking gearbox oilseal, but a replacement clutch was expected. Dual mass flywheel is also damaged and...

    Boost Circuit Diagram?

Much obliged and thanks for your interest. Have cast about on other VAG turbo websites and it is noticeable that most of the threads concerning the type of noise that is impairing my brain finish with no recorded resolution at all. Hopefully this one will be different !!

    Boost Circuit Diagram?

I have been trying to trace noises that seem identical to yours. Engine cold the car "chirps" and the rate at which it chirps is controlled by the accelerator - with light throttle it seems I can drive "around" the noises. The noises only happen when the engine is under load (blipping the...

2002 S3: Can this be a slipping clutch?

Thanks for that. Any ideas why it is occasional? Semi verticall hillstarts etc are not a problem, cause I tried it after the "occurence". Would like to understand the problem, before shelling out on a clutch replacement! Thanks.

2002 S3: Can this be a slipping clutch?

Hi, In all driving conditions, the clutch is fine. However, on a recent motorway journey, incline ahead and I am pressing on in fifth gear, when the revs start to rise with no apparent increase in speed. No redlining involved, just a gentle rise until, in suprise, I slow down to ponder and...

    2002 S3: Exhaust manifold replacement

Thanks for the help. Problems resolved today with the replacement of the DV with a new standard part. One issue left to chase down. Thanks again.

What should I pay for this?

Hello again, Apologies for the delay in responding: been chasing down the 2 issues that came with the car. Cam belt change, with usual parts and a water pump done well for £190. Apparent exhaust manifold problems resolved today for the cost of a new stock DV and a jubilee clip at £24.50 in...

    Not your usual DV question

I endured exactly the same noises until today, when I replaced the DV with a new standard component (Part No: 06A145710N) and that cured it. I have been chasing this problem for a couple of months and largely thanks to this thread, I found the answer. Thanks.

    2002 S3: Exhaust manifold replacement

Hello again, This noise is still present. The following has been done in an attempt to trace it: 1. VAG COM thing is all clear and no problems at all. 2. Remove belt and isolate a/c compressor, alternator etc: run the engine and no difference. 3. Thought unlikely that it is an internal engine...

    2002 S3: Exhaust manifold replacement

Thanks again. I will do just as you suggest and get the thing off its wheels, have a rummage and a listen. Again, many thanks.

    2002 S3: Exhaust manifold replacement

Thanks for the help. That's thrown me a bit as I was quite sure the problem was the manifold!! Seemingly some form of inner skin or lining gets partially detached and vibrates/rattles at certain engine revs. If it is the downpipe, is this a fairly common problem, in your experience? Thanks.

    2002 S3: Exhaust manifold replacement

Hello, Just purchased this car knowing the exhaust manifold would need replacement. I am not particularly interested in increased performance and really want a "relatively" easy replacement for the existing rattler. Is there an aftermarket manifold, which will accept all of the standard...
