This is on an '02 A6 1.9TDI with about 80K miles.
On saturday I noticed that the engine seemed to be idling rough, and that the vibration could be felt through the car.
I checked under the bonnet and the vibration was such that the writing on the engine cover was almost too burred to read...
I've had a long chat with the local Audi dealer, they're replacing the servo and drying out the car at Audi's expense! Its called a goodwill repair or something similar...
There is a recall on models that have this problem, the Audi dealers in Cambridge say that the modification is done while you wait.
I suspect the modification involves a mechanic's finger making a poking motion at the grommet in order to remove the thing, apparently the dealer has seen hundreds...

Water has obviously got into something because on an icey morning the brakes seize...
