I also have a 1966 Beach buggy - excempt from just about everything testable at the MOT station due to its age - drinks fuel and virtually throws it out neat through the unbaffled exhausts
And its tax free due to it being a historic vehicle !!!!

Yes, it was the boot catch itself - I removed mine, flooded it with WD40 and then blew it around with an airline - seems to have worked ever since.
I cannot see a way to get the switch out though, as it appears that the two halves of the catch are riveted together - if it fails again, it will...

So, do all of these projector style headlight conversions come with the motors also for the height adjustment then? I`m not talking of auto levelling...
Shouldn`t the rear fog light bulbs be a 21W bulb with a single pin ?
If you have two pins on the base of the bulb, then you have a stop/tail 21W/5W bulb instead - and that will not work !!
