Cheers.
Found this on ebay with an Audi logo on at half the price of GSF and the STEALERSHIP - http://tinyurl.com/znouyrx
Will check that part number against the one that's currently in the car as it looks like early 2003 cars had one with B suffix and later cars got one with a C suffix.
Does...
Looks like I'm doing this job at the weekend. What was the price of the Audi parts vs the GSF part?
Is the sensor in the sump the ONLY oil sensor that can trigger the "OILCAN sensor" warning??
Treated my beater to a new crankcase breather set as it was idling anywhere between 900 and 2000 rpm and generally spluttering a lot. There was a totally shattered pipe in there and the valve had failed in the open position.
While I was in there and had the throttle body off I gave it a clean...
I've had the flange and the water pump changed in the last 10 months. Though and still coolant leaks from the new flange a bit....
Bigpoppa: I paid around £100 for the parts and £150 labour for the waterpump and cambelt to be changed. How many miles have you got on it? Could be it's due to be...
Ahhh there speaks a man who's lived with leaks! I feel the connection.
Thanks for the info. And I agree - I would much rather find and fix the issue, the K Seal idea was more a last resort if it did turn out to be a head gasket: no way am I paying for a head gasket replacement on a ten year old...
They are a decent garage, they cured the coolant flange leak and were more than happy to investigate where else the water is going... if I wanted to pay them to do so.
But that's where I find this forum often saves me money.
I could have paid the main dealer over twice what I paid to replace...
Then you'd be able to claim against them for the damage caused as they explicitly state in their FAQ's:
Will K-Seal block anything in my cooling system?
K-Seal will not block the cooling system and is safe to use with all types of water cooled engine.
FAQs for K-Seal
Anyone tried this? Would anyone recommend it or warn against it?
K-Seal Car Leak Repair: Coolant, Head Gasket & Radiator Sealant
Have been recommended it by a friend in the trade in relation to my mystery coolant loss -...
Thanks for all the suggestions. I'll spend some more time with a torch and see if I can see any secret leaks.
I'll also do the cardboard exhaust thing Icarus - how wet is normal and how wet is too wet? I do keep an eye out for white smoke, not seen any, but then I'm in the car facing the other...
Thanks Guys.
Yes - the level still drops.
There is no yellow sludge at all under the oil filler cap, and no sign of it on the dipstick either. And the oil level isn't rising as someone suggested.
Also wet carpets were mentioned - but mine are bone dry.
I need to find and fix this - I've...
Good question. I haven't checked in the last few days.
I assume you mean it would rise if there's water in there? Would the oil sit on top of the water? So if i drained the sump I'd see water come out first then oil?
Or wouldn't the heat evaporate the water away?
Sorry.. lotta question there..!
Would appreciate thoughts from anyone with relevant experience here!
I just had the coolant flange changed as coolant was spewing out from around it, but the coolant level is still dropping quite a bit. Even when I didn't use the car for a week and a half?
I took it back to check the coolant...
Just reviving this, with an extra question: can it be changed while the bonnet is stuck shut? Or does the bonnet need to be opened by some other means?
Cheers
