I still like the look of these. Only 17s and I know the ride height puts light aircraft at risk, but they were free and I've always loved them. Genuine staggered set, too.
Don't bother risking a non-genuine PAS belt: I bought a Gates one and test-fitted it and it just hung loosely between the pulleys and wouldn't have been any use at all. This despite the length and dimensions being spot on.
It all came down to the number and shape of the teeth in the "vee". The...
Excellent, a really enjoyable read and I'll be watching this thread with interest.
My B5 doesn't have much in the way of Thunder to it, though it is at least blue.
I can't understand why anybody would want to cut their springs. You can make your car look lower by letting out the air from your tyres for even less effort.
Nice one. Could well make a decent difference right out the box.
I'm starting to get the upgrade bug here, aren't I? If I start driving this thing around and I find that it IS the head gasket that was causing me woe all along, I'll probably end up...... fixing the damn thing.
Excellent! I didn't realise a V6 item would fit. That's handy. I'm in e-mail contact with one of the parts guys at my local dealer. What's the chance that they'll actually know what I mean when I say "snub mount for an RS4"?
EDIT: Just found Part No. 8D0199339E. Lovely.
While the great reassembly goes ahead it occurred to me that I may as well fit an uprated snub mount while the front end is off.
May I please have your recommendations for suppliers? Plan is to mail order to fit on Saturday. Cheers.
The above pic was actually taken before I tightened the pulley bolts, which made some difference but only a bit.
Hmmm, below was what the original looked like after several years of stretching:
Slack, but not floppy. Gnnnnhhh.
I'll buy an actual honest-to-goodness VAG belt and see if that's...
If i turn the PAS pulley clockwise it takes the water pump with it, but if I turn the water pump anticlockwise it just slips.
Strangely the new belt seems exactly the same size as the old one when I have them side by side, but the new one has about half as many "teeth".
I'll have a look at my...
Seems to be one step at a time putting this thing back together.
New v-belt between the PAS and water pump seems to hang very loose off the two pulleys. It's a Dayco item from ECP and the measurements seem right, but surely it can't be supposed to be this loose...
New waterpump installed...
Good choice. During my stint flogging Bimmers I used to relish when I had an enquiry on one of these; customers were rather surprised by what they could do. My only gripe was that they looked better on the inside than the outside. That said, black and M-Sport made for a bit of a transformation...
Cheers man. My torque wrench is a bit boggo so calibrations less than 25nm (18lb ft) are somewhat hit and miss. I ended up going for a value which felt like "enough" just using a ratchet.
It's all going back together now, though because it's in my Nan's garage (ten miles away) I can't just nip...
Hi chaps.... I'm on the home straight of my cambelt change along with the oil cooler, the water pump, the radiator and everything that's ever been in contact with coolant. Only one hold-up....so far:
I was fitting the new cambelt tensioner: Haynes doesn't give any torque values for the...
Cheers guys; what's the advantage of Vauxhall injectors versus Audi items? I've got a feeling Beachbuggy was starting to appear on here before I vanished. I like the look of the bits on his website... I see no reason not to drop several hundred quid on a new turbo if it renews my interest in the...
Hi Aragorn, I'm glad you're still around!
What size are the C20LET injectors? Do you know a reliable supplier? And will introducing a new ECU not bring immobilizer issues, or is it plug and play (ish?)
Also, and forgive me for this; who is Beachbuggy?
Thanks!
