Had this once too,the lock is jammed by the oxidation. You can get it open trough there tough,just keep trying to find the lever between the hood and front bumper.Needs a push/pull because the cable is stuck. Grease it in well after.

Like the title says, Left is pretty quiet ,my friend also has this with his passat b5. Its the standard speakers with a single din radio.
