Things you would change on a used S4

I'd look into changing the fuel filter. Not a normal service item, not even on a major service. Presuming someone's not specced it to be changed, at 10 years old now, it's way past it's best. Changing mine was one of the best things I've done.

    Back to square one.....any ideas?

It's definately not high res. at the sensor end. So must be further back in the harness. I'll have to take a day out somewhere and have the top of the engine apart to get access to as much of the wire as poss. In my mind, it's either along the top of the engine due to heat. Though the other...

    Back to square one.....any ideas?

So, a little while ago I replaced my G42 sensor. It's the combined Boost and charge temp sensor that sits in the top of the throttle body boot (B5 S4). I did this because it appeared to be at fault. Engine was intermittently reading 143 degrees charge temp....even at idle and with the engine...

    Adjusting Headlights for abroad.

I'm off to the Nurburgring later this month. And am beginning the preparations for driving on the continent. One thing I really don't want to do is to use those horrible nasty stickers that dim your headlights right down, and leave residue over the lenses forever. Is there any way to adjust...

    G42 intake air temp sender

So it seems that it is a combined sensor in the TBB. Boost pressure and Inlet temp.

    G42 intake air temp sender

B5 S4 avant. It's the intake air temp sender I'm after. You say it's actually in the inlet manifold, rather than the throttle body rubber boot (where the two turbo pipes meet). ?

    G42 intake air temp sender

Mine's showing up as faulty on VAG-Com. Occasionally it works, and reads right, but 90% of the time, it's showing a permanent 143 degrees C. Which I presume would be a contributing factor to the cars slowness. Being as the maximum range should be 70 something. I guess it's retarding the...

Has anyone in the UK bought VAG COM from the US?

For what it's worth. I ordered my Vag Com from Ross tech in the U.S. It ended up costing about £154. It took two days to come. That was fast as hell. Then a week later, I got an import reciept from Fed-Ex. £18 for import duty, £6something as a charge from them. So, It still came in at...

    Function tests

Thankyou for your reply Uwe. I'm pretty sure there's a problem in communication between my throttle pedal and throttle body. So I'm trying to figure out which one it is. Doing what I can on VC, neither of them is showing a fault. However, at full throttle, my logs are only peaking at about 56%...

    Function tests

I know Vagcom allows you to run the output tests. But will it also run function tests like the Audi 5051 systems do? For example, the 5051 can run a test on the fly by wire throttle pedals to show the full range of output including the voltage signal, and tell you if it is working correctly. ???

    Changed N75, still problems

I thought the throttle valve reading was weird, but then discounted it as just not understanding the readings. I presume, at WOT, it should read 100% then? So, it's only giving me half throttle?

    Changed N75, still problems

Standard air filter i suspect. I've had the car 3 weeks now? Not changed the filter. Will pull it out and have a look tomorrow. Gonna look into a new fuel filter too. Apparently it's not a normal service item?! If that's 120,000 miles old, then there's definately gonna want a change. That...

    Changed N75, still problems

I could never get my GT-four to peak boost in 1st gear, there just wasn't enough load to bring it full before I ran out of revs. Either way. Heres a WOT run in 3rd gear I did the other night. These readings are symptomatic of all my runs.....

    Changed N75, still problems

Yeah, I hope it's not the wastegates too. However, the Log's I've done on the boost block show that it's only spiking, rather than holding higher boost all the time. For half a run, it'll be within the +/- 20mbar tolerance. It'll spike just as I first hit boost in 1st gear. And if I hold off...

    Changed N75, still problems

I changed my N75 valve today, finally. But I'm still getting a positive deviation in the boost. Now, I've also got a low reading on the Air intake temp gauge (G42). I wonder if that's causing the fault? If not that, what else? I was hoping to have the car running right after that, but it's...

    Oil temp sender

It's so very weird. The gauge starts at 0. But doesn't ever go any further than about 70 degrees. Yet the gauge doesn't run correctly when the diagnostics turn all the needles. So there's definately a problem in the needle driver. But it's temperamental. Perhaps there's a problem with the...

    Where to find my N75?

So I ran 3rd gear from 3k to 6.5k. And here's the results. I ran block 115 as well, just as I'm liking keeping an eye on the boost

    My loan car

I'm sure it's a rule at Audi, that if they give you a loan car, it has to be equivilant or better than what you dropped off. Except for people with A2's and the basic A3's. At my brothers dealership, if they take your R8, they collect from your house. With a hard sided lorry they drive it...
