I would keep it, the cost of selling and buying another far out weighs the cost of a dpf clog. My old vivaro does only stop start short trips and thats never been a problem. whatever you get these days is on a losing battle against the greens, it takes an hour of pretty much constant 4k revs at...
Still lurking nige
still got the S3, its tuned to the 9's now and showing 130k :-) still goes like stink and looks likie new,, why change ? :)
glad to see you are still going mate and i hope business is good. :)
I use Mobil 1 , 5/50 for the same reason and its been brilliant . my car drank 10/40 but now i use barely a litre a year between changes
Currently on 120k and its been APR 2+ since 48k and now its really loosend up its quicker than it ever has been.
bought new but not for the feint hearted as £185 + vat and fitting means about £1500 with a fuel filter and fitting :-)
i have the old ones and i might get them serviced and re sell.
Problem was the injectors after all
Changed all 4 problem solved. Full marks to PT, one was leaking down over night causing the misfire on startup. also found 3.5 tons of carbon on the valves :-)
Cheers
I think injectors are ok because its running a Loba HP pump that is suppling fuel up to 7k rpm without trouble.
Dip stick and PCV would effect the whole thing i think not just one cylinder on choke.
I just got another set of plugs so will swap them and check the coil packs for signs of tracking...
Appreciate the thought, I wondered if it was tracking down the coil but i dont get why its cured immediately the choke goes off so i need to find what triggers the choke. its not heat because it cant possibly register the heat in 10-15 seconds unless it does measure outside temp rather than...
On a cold start my S3 runs on 3 cyl at 1200rpm.
Immediately the revs drop to 800rpm it cuts in on 4 and is fine. This may be after only 15 seconds on a reasonable day so its not an air or water temp sender.
Once its run for long enough for the "auto choke " to cut out its fine all day in fact...
Hi Julian
I an no expert with cars, i am a biker person but looking at your chart i would say if there was a restriction caused by the air box its going to show at max revs. and any improvement is going to be therefore above 5000rpm however these maps are often designed to give bottom end...
Noise was an important factor for me as well as i am knocking on a bit now.... The VWR is barely noticeable and when you do hear it, its an air rushing sound bit like letting a tyre down :)
It also draws air from the outside, not a partitioned off area under the bonnet, probably why its so...
Seems to me you are massively over thinking this, its highly probable that the std intake/filter setup on a Ko3 is more than adequate and you would do better to upgrade your intercooler if you think heat is your issue.
If you indicators flash people will say Wow !! an 8p.
Lets face it the 8p looks miles better than the 8V anyway.
Get yourself some TT air vents..at least then you can see your mod when you are driving.
Not sure why you want them anyway, round here in the south most cars have them so they are just the norm, even ****** range rovers :-)
soon it will be really original to have flashing indicators.
With 225k on the clock you cant really use that survey as it will not allow for the wear in your engine. you need to be going thicker with heat not thinner.
I use Mobil1 5/50 because i have stg 2+ as this balances out the extra Turbo heat. and i had a problem with smoking at about 80k miles on std oil, now on 115k, no smoke and car runs great.
I really dont think these are high mileage. 50 years ago maybe but modern tolerance engines with modern oils just go on and on if looked after
My neighbour has a 25 year old Celica thats on 285k miles and is pretty much trouble free. My stage 2+ S3 is on 113k miles, had it since new and it still...
