I was under the impression that there were two models, the A3 1.8T and the A3 1.8T Sport. As for it getting ugly when lowering springs are fitted, I noticed a vast improvement straight away when I lowered mine! If you gonna buy a fast car, you want re assurance that it will go around corners!
I had a Corrado 16V before my A3 and I had the same problem with that, but not only was the problem of the handbrake not being effective enough, I had to change the rear calipers a few times due to them seizing and failing the M.O.T. :-(
Has anyone had problems selecting 1st & 2nd gear when the car is cold? I have changed the oil in the gearbox for some high performance oil that is full of ptfe so i think it might be that, just wondered if anyone else had the same problem?

I have a set of Eibach springs on my A3 Turbo, I think they are the dogs b's, although i also have found the front to be slightly lower than the back. I had a Corrado b4 my A3 which was 40mm lowered which I found was too much, the amount of times I had to re-fit my front bumper because of curbs...
